If you are just starting out in resource sharing and have thought, “where do I actually learn this?” – you are not alone. Most areas of librarianship have established coursework, theory, and standards behind them. Resource sharing doesn’t, even though it’s just as essential to how libraries function.

That’s largely because resource sharing is operational. It is learned by doing, inside a real system, AND it cuts across cataloging, collection development, copyright, and access services without fully belonging to any of them. So most people who do this work, whatever their background, pick it up on the job, piecemeal.

Resource Sharing 101 is a series of short videos designed to assemble the bigger picture. Each one covers a piece of the resource sharing puzzle, building on the last — but each also stands alone, so you can start wherever’s useful to you.

This series is for staff new to libraries, new to resource sharing, or both.
