The Boring Co.’s Vegas Loop transportation system has reached the northernmost point of the Strip.

The Sahara Las Vegas has opened a Vegas Loop station at the resort on the southeast corner of the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, the resort announced Thursday.

Sahara’s loop station is at surface level at the resort’s Paradise Road entrance on the east side of the property. Sahara joins Westgate as the only hotels that have both a Vegas Loop station and a Las Vegas Monorail station.

“The resort offers guests two convenient public transportation options for exploring the Strip and beyond,” the resort said in a statement.

The Sahara station is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with extended hours possible during conventions.

The Boring Co. received its first permit to tunnel in the city of Las Vegas north of Sahara Avenue. But that work isn’t pending; Boring Co. has yet to receive the needed permits to tunnel toward downtown, according to the company.

Sahara joins Resorts World, Fontainebleau, Westgate and Encore as Las Vegas resorts that include a Vegas Loop station. The Vegas Loop also has five stations at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The point-to-point system uses Tesla model vehicles to transport riders mainly in underground tunnels.

Rides are free within the convention center’s footprint and available for a fee for any station outside of that.

Boring Co. crews are working toward opening a new 2-mile dual tunnel line underneath Paradise from Westgate to a planned station at 4744 Paradise Road just north of Tropicana Avenue.

It is hoped that the new line will open in time for this year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix in November, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority president and CEO Steve Hill previously told the Review-Journal.

The Paradise line will eventually include several stops along the route, including at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, at a planned Boring Co. apartment complex and at the former Gordon Biersch brewery and restaurant, which would in part service Sphere and the Las Vegas Convention Center.

At full build-out, the Vegas Loop will include 104 stations served by 68 miles of tunnels with stops at most Strip hotel properties, downtown Las Vegas and other sites of interest including Allegiant Stadium, Chinatown and Harry Reid International Airport. Talks are underway between Boring Co. and Clark County Department of Aviation officials regarding a potential Vegas Loop station in the airport’s footprint.
