Communicating Science to the Broader Public Webinar

This panel-style webinar will bring together experienced microbiologists and science communicators to share practical strategies for engaging the broader public. Panelists will discuss approaches for translating complex scientific or microbiology concepts into clear, accessible language, using storytelling and addressing common misconceptions. The session will also highlight real-world experiences with media, social platforms, community engagement and political advocacy followed by an interactive discussion.

Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to do the following:
  1. Apply plain-language and storytelling techniques to explain complex scientific concepts to diverse, non-expert audiences.
  2. Recognize and address common public misconceptions about microbiology, infectious diseases and public health.
  3. Evaluate effective and practical communication approaches shared by panelists for engaging with media, online platforms, community stakeholders and political representatives.
