There's a new update coming to Halo: Campaign Evolved next week. The patch, which is targeting some of the biggest issues players have had with the game since its launch a few weeks ago, will arrive sometime between 17th August and 21st August (no fixed date has been announced yet).

In a tweet, Halo Support noted that the five headline changes coming to the game revolve around chromatic aberration, how the magnified skull works, how Sgt. Johnson's AI works, as well as stability fixes across platforms. Here's the log:

  • Improvements to Sgt. Johnson to prevent blocked mission progression.
  • Jackals can now be staggered more reliably when targeting their hands and feet.
  • Marines and Flood Marines will now fire their Assault Rifles when the Magnified Skull is activated.
  • Players can now turn off Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain.
  • Additional stability improvements across multiple platforms.

A word of warning, however: once the patch is deployed, any mid-mission save data you have will be invalidated - just bear that in mind in case you're one checkpoint away from the end of a level on Legendary mode on, say, Sunday evening (in case the whole thing updates on Monday). We'll be sure to share the full patch notes whenever this update lands.

Despite reviewing well, Halo: Campaign Evolved has failed to sell particularly well on PS5, where the low-effort Black Ops 1 and 2 ports seemingly outsold the Microsoft title 16-to-1. The series' co-creator Marcus Lehto has had some opinions on how the art style has changed in the game, which somewhat complement my feelings about how certain aspects of the level design have been altered, too.

After Halo: Campaign Evolved shipped, multiple contractor positions were terminated, in line with the latest cuts over at the Xbox division, where 3200 salaried positions were cut earlier this year. Despite those losses, Halo Studios seems set to forge ahead with the almost-confirmed Halo 2 remake teased at the end of Campaign Evolved.
