The plummeting enrollment in DOE schools, even as the population at public charter schools grows year after year, is the most telling "customer feedback" of all.
Schools Chancellor, Kamar H. Samuels speaks at press conference with NY Gov. Kathy Hochul and NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani beside him.

Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels’ Department of Education can’t teach the kids, but still hopes to snow everyone ese.
Just a week after the release of test scores showed that more than half of city 3rd- to 5th-graders can’t pass state reading tests, the DOE dared claim that 96% of city families are satisfied with their children’s education.
The DOE’s pseudo-scientific School Survey — some principals dangle pizza parties to entice students and families to complete the online poll — touted more than 870,000 students, families and educators expressing “strong support” for embattled Chancellor Samuels.
Hah! Samuels has yet to outline any plans to address falling enrollment, chronic absenteeism and soaring illiteracy.
And the DOE’s satisfaction numbers are flatly contradicted by other evidence.
“By Any Honest Measure,” the Success Academy report on the true state of city schools, shows that students’ feedback tell a different story.

Just 41% of students report feeling “challenged academically,” while 53% say they feel bored in school.
And plenty of other parent surveys show real anger: A recent Empire Center poll found that 60% of city respondents want improvements in reading and math results.
And of course the plummeting enrollment in DOE schools, even as the population at public charter schools grows year after year, is the most telling “customer feedback” of all.
