In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Executive Order 12114, the DoN announces its decision to conduct training and testing activities within the Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System Low-Frequency Active (SURTASS LFA) Sonar Training and Testing Study Area in the Western North Pacific and Indian Oceans, as described in Alternative 1 of the SURTASS LFA Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement/Overseas Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS/OEIS).
Alternative 1 is the DoN's preferred alternative and is representative of an annual level of SURTASS LFA training and testing activities. The complete text of the Record of Decision (ROD) and the SURTASS LFA Final SEIS/OEIS is available on the project website at www.nepa.navy.mil/surtass-lfa/ along with supporting documents.
