Coronation Street's Gemma Winter-Brown was collared by a security guard after stealing from a shop while filming upcoming scenes on Tuesday. 

The mother-of-five, played by Dolly-Rose Campbell, slipped a pair of children's shoes underneath her coat before  making a swift exit. 

But after running out of the door she was caught by a waiting security guard who ushered her back inside. 

Gemma and her husband Chesney have been going through a difficult time after his son Joseph was diagnosed with Lyme disease. 

She was previously removed from the house by social services under suspicion of deliberately poisoning the youngster. 

The crime could leave police questioning if she is able to look after Joseph after several run-ins with the council.  

Meanwhile, her twin brother is rapidly deteriorating following his diagnosis with motor neurone disease last year. 

Coronation Street will be shaking things up on its iconic set after bosses recently signed a huge new sponsorship deal.

Viewers can prepare to see big changes on the cobbles from July, with two new additions appearing on set.

The soap is swapping its Co-op store for Sainsbury's and even building an Argos outlet after ITV signed a major deal with the retailer.

Fans will soon see characters shop at the new local in Weatherfield, buying real products from the store.

Laura Boothby from Argos told The Sun: 'We hope the new store brings familiarness and fun to viewers watching from home and perhaps see Ken Barlow popping in to Click & Collect a new kettle! 

'Coronation Street is one of the country’s most iconic TV shows which our customers know and love, so continuing our sponsorship made perfect sense.

She added: 'With over 800 Sainsbury’s convenience stores across the country, we continue to make it really easy for customers to run in for a pint of milk as well as pick up a last minute birthday gift from Argos.'

While the new stores are being built, hoardings will be seen on the programme until it is finished. 

John Whiston, Managing Director of Continuing Drama, and Head of ITV in the North, said: 'It’ll be the talk of The Street what’s going on behind those hoardings, I’m sure.'
