A male bus driver has been charged with the alleged possession of child abuse materials discovered in a dramatic early morning raid. 

The 65-year-old man was detained as officers searched a home in Port Macquarie, on NSW's Mid North Coast, about 6.35am on Wednesday.

During the search, detectives allegedly located and seized child abuse material stored on various electronic devices. 

The man was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station. 

He was charged with possessing child abuse data by using a carriage service, using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material and using a carriage service to make available child abuse.

His arrest came following a tip-off from Queensland Police Service's Argos team in April and extensive investigations by NSW detectives under Strike Force Trawler. 

Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing investigation into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children through the internet and related telecommunications devices. 

The man appeared in Macquarie Local Court on Wednesday where he was formally refused bail to appear again on August 21.
