A Design-Led Alternative to Traditional BLACK Gym Tiles

Most commercial gyms rely on standard black rubber tiles. But for Soho House, that wasn’t an option.

To align with the interior design palette of 180 House, we specified Fitness Xtreme Eco in Terra. A warm, earthy tone chosen to soften the space and elevate the training space. Terra introduces depth, calm, and a natural finish that complements the surrounding herringbone timber flooring and reflects the aesthetic values of the Soho House brand.

It’s a space built to perform, but also to feel beautiful.

Engineered for Strength Training in a Multi‑Use London Building

The gym is in the same building as a gallery, office spaces, and a recording studio, meaning acoustic control was critical.

Dropping weights in a mixed‑use building in central London requires engineered flooring, not just a rubber tile. Our team conducted detailed impact‑noise tests and trialled multiple material build‑ups to ensure the final solution would protect the surrounding neighbours.

The system we delivered consists of a 48mm acoustic build‑up, combining:

– a design‑driven top layer of Fitness Xtreme Eco (10mm) in Terra

– a specialist acoustic layer beneath, engineered to absorb impact

– a substructure designed to reduce vibration transmission

This structure allows for confident strength training without unwanted disturbance.
