Nicole Kidman says she “didn’t expect” her divorce from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage.

The 59-year-old actress opened up about filing for divorce from Urban in September 2025 in an interview with British Vogue. “Free falling?” she suggested as a description of how the felt the moment their marriage ended. “Jumping off?” she added. “Like, where am I going? And what’s next?”

Kidman didn’t go into detail about what caused her and Urban, 58, to separate. Insiders speculate that Urban was the one who ended things before Kidman’s divorce filing.

Kidman told British Vogue that she has been focused on processing her feelings about the divorce than analyzing the particulars. “I don’t overthink things and I’m probably not that analytical,” she said. “I’m far more feeling-centred and I lead with my heart. I just go, ‘OK, what do I feel here? I’ll give it a go.’ It throws people, because I think they think I’ll be far more measured and I’m not.”

Kidman added that she’s “keeping the heart open” after her split but admits that the breakup came as a surprise to her. “But at the same time I’m like, ‘OK, I didn’t expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now,'” she said. “You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s… not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now.”

Kidman and Urban, who share 17-year-old daughter Sunday Rose and 15-year-old daughter Faith Margaret, married in 2006. Kidman is also the mother of daughter Isabella and son Connor, whom she adopted with Tom Cruise, 63. She and Cruise were married from 1990 to 2001.
