In a shocking turn of events, Apple is striking a deal with Google to power the all new Siri. For more than a year, Apple has yet to follow through on the promise of a native-AI capability on its myriad of operating systems. It appears with this partnership, Apple is accepting a reality that does not include controlling their own Siri AI capabilities. These Google Gemini inspired Apple logo wallpapers honor the combined future.

Google Gemini’s collaborative announcement is not the first major partnership between the Cupertino and Mountain View based companies. Google has been the default Safari browser search engine for at least a decade. Apple has even reportedly received upwards of $10bn annually for the agreement.

Whatever the all new Siri was supposed to be in recent iterations, is not happening. An omniscient onboard assistant that was promised to have back door access to all apps, would make all things surfaceable and actionable. As time progresses, this feels like it may never be a reality. Perhaps in an act of desperation, Apple is working with Google to infuse Gemini AI within the Siri experience, to finally accomplish the promise made at WWDC 24.
