Foresteria Borgoluce sits on a working estate that spans over 1,000 hectares and belongs to the Collalto family, whose documented history here goes back to 958. The estate holds two of the family's castles, San Salvatore, a five-minute drive away and run since 2018 by Princess Isabella Collalto de Croÿ, and the older Collalto Castle in the hamlet of the same name, about six minutes further. The Foresteria itself spans two 19th-century farmhouses, Casa Sfondo and Casa Lentiner. The rooms are minimalistic but chic, with exposed wooden beams throughout, and the common living areas are built for reading and relaxing in oversized, comfortable couches and seating areas. Guests rave about the natural swimming pool filtered through gravel, rock and aquatic plants and the farm-to-table breakfast built from the estate's own dairy, including its mozzarella di bufala, produced by water buffaloes raised on the Borgoluce estate.

Osteria Borgoluce, in the same hamlet as Collalto Castle, serves dishes using the estate's own beef, water buffalo and produce, and the terrace looks straight into UNESCO territory. Cantina Borgoluce, the newer, partly underground tasting room, looks out at both castles at once and draws cyclists touring the Prosecco roads. The farm shop next door sells the estate's wine, cheese, and pasta made from its own grain, perfect for souvenirs.

Hotel Villa Soligo, Farra di Soligo

Villa Soligo started in 1782 as a summer hunting lodge for the Counts of Brandolini, and the neoclassical bones still show. Romanesque columns frame the entrance, the same splendour is carried up into the 39 individually designed rooms and suites, furnished in the period style of the house. It's part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and past guests reportedly include Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni, back when the villa still worked as a private retreat. Rooms look out over the original fountain and grounds thick with pine and cedar, and the property backs that setting up with a proper spa, a seasonal pool, a tennis court and E-bikes with an on-site charging point. La Strada del Prosecco, Italy's original wine road, starts essentially at the property's doorstep.

The hotel’s Ristorante Coldefer Osteria is worth a booking, with modern updates on very classic dishes from the region. If you see risi e bisi (a traditional rice and peas dish) on the menu, order it and thank us later. Breakfast is solid, and the hotel pours many of the region's top producers, including Andreola, a well-respected Valdobbiadene producer from Farra di Soligo. The hotel’s concierge can organise a visit to Andreola's tasting room, a quick 10-minute drive away, and there’s even a Villa Soligo label made specifically for the hotel.
