Hillside Beach Club, Fethiye, Turkey

Just about everyone working in the travel industry has heard of Hillside Beach Club, and so have all my parent friends. ‘An oldie but a goodie’ commented one when I mentioned where I was headed, full extended family in tow. Returning a week later, I couldn’t have put it better myself. This is a resort that excels at catering for multi-generational groups and not a day went by that one of the nine of us (yes, nine) felt de-prioritised. It might not be the glossiest resort on the Turkish Riviera, but that is absolutely its charm. No airs and graces, no pretence, just a top-tier beachside plot and an atmosphere as welcoming as its staff.

Reeling off all the activities here is impossible, but take one look at the daily schedule and you’ll soon whittle down what you do and don’t want to do. There’s a hotel app that guests are encouraged to download at check-in and lists times and locations of everything on offer. Morning beach yoga, team sports and workout classes will keep fitness enthusiasts happy, as well as tennis, padel courts and ping-pong tournaments. For kids, there are three dedicated areas on site, split by age group. The Baby Park is for 0-3 and features splash pads, a mini sand pit and a host of games and toys. For ages 4-7 Kidside offers age-appropriate workshops and activities, and for 8-15 year olds, an activity centre with its own basketball court and, table tennis. In the evening, a roster of entertainment and live performances up the energy – if that’s not your thing, there’s always the poolside bar.

All guests are on a full-board basis, so while its not quite all-inclusive, it's fairly close, and any additional spend can be tracked on the app. This is the kind of hotel I'd recommend to anyone travelling with kids, but probably not couples. Sarah Leigh Bannerman

Price: Rooms from around £600 per night, full-board.
