The Simpsons creator Matt Groening claims that Hit & Run "is coming back in some form" after 23 years.

People have been pleading for a Hit & Run remaster for over a decade now, with petitions cropping up as early as the 2010s to "show Matt just how badly we want it." Vivendi Games and Radical Entertainment's GTA clone is a childhood classic these days, as everyone who was told that Vice City was 'too adult' by their parents way back when are now hankering for a return to Springfield from behind the wheel of Homer's pink Sedan.

However, as reported by IGN, after Groening let slip that "the original game is coming back" during a recent D23 panel, current showrunner Matt Selman chimed in, "...or maybe not."

Is The Hit & Run Remake Real?

Don't lose hope yet, though. It's certainly possible that Groening got his wires crossed and there are no plans to bring Hit & Run back, or that plans got scrapped, but just two months ago, VGC reporter and reliable insider, Jordan Middler, hinted that a remake is in the works.

He teased that a popular licensed title, "the one that everyone's absolutely desperate for," is happening. There are plenty of beloved tie-ins from the '00s that he might be alluding to here, but Middler made it incredibly apparent when he signed off on the podcast by saying that the crew is going to "hit-and-run" out of there.

Selman was likely trying to pour cold water on Groening's comment to avoid spoiling the reveal ahead of time, or maybe he was just playing along to fuel the speculation. Whatever the case, given Middler's tease and everything else surrounding the game right now, it certainly seems that Hit & Run is making a long-overdue comeback.
