‘Like a murder mystery': Illinois town buzzing over who could've won $1B Powerball prize

A whodunit is unfolding in a small town in Illinois as residents wait for the winner of a $1.04 billion jackpot-winning Powerball ticket sold at a gas station in the area to come forward.
The lucky winner matched all six numbers in this week’s Powerball drawing on a single ticket they purchased at a Hy-Vee gas station at 310 N. 36th St. in Quincy.
According to game officials, it’s the largest Powerball prize won so far this year and the eighth largest in Powerball history.
Locals in the small Illinois-Missouri border town are itching to find out who the winner is.
“It’s just like a murder mystery,” one of the workers at the Hy-Vee gas station said. “It’s like, who did it? Who won? So all our regulars are coming in saying ‘not me,’ ‘not me.’ So we’re just kind of narrowing down in our head on who we haven’t seen yet.”
The gas station also hung a yellow sign declaring on the front door.

The numbers matched to win were 4, 26, 66, 67, 69, with a red Powerball of 9. The Power Play® multiplier was 2.
The mystery winner can choose from either an annuitized price of $1.040 billion, or a lump-sum payment of $450.5 million after taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive the prize in 30 graduated payments over 29 years, officials said.
The owner of the Hy-Vee gets a half a million dollars for selling that winning ticket.
