Sex offender arrested in yard of person he allegedly began stalking on social media

Дата публикации: 14-08-2026 16:44:03

A registered sex offender was arrested in the west suburban backyard of a person he allegedly began stalking after seeing them on social media, police said.
Around 2:40 a.m. on Thursday, police responded to 1400 block of Clybourne Street in Batavia after a 911 call from a person who said they saw a flashlight and shadow outside their window. When officers arrived, they saw a person running through the backyard.
With assistance from a drone and a Kane County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, the officers were able to find a man matching the description of the person seen running in the backyard on the 0-900 block of Saratoga Drive, authorities said. Officers made contact with the man, who voluntarily spoke with them and identified himself as 27-year-old Tavian Douglas-Rogan. He also had plant debris on his clothes and his shoes were wet and covered in grass, the officers noted.
The officers found Douglas-Rogan on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry after he identified himself, and in speaking with him learned that he had been at the house of the 011 caller and looking into the windows.
Police said they also learned Douglas-Rogan did not know the victim but instead saw them on social media, researched them and found their address.
He was arrested, and after multiple search warrants, officers also discovered Douglas-Rogan was in possession of burglary tools that he purchased only hours before the incident.
He is facing several charges, including attempted residential burglary, stalking and possession of burglary tools and was transported to the Kane County Jail to await bond call.
“This incident serves as an important reminder to remain vigilant by keeping doors and windows securely locked and limiting the amount of personal information posted on social media,” Batavia police said.
Police also encouraged taking the following steps to ensure your home is secure:
Lock your front and back doors
Make sure all ground‑floor windows are closed and secured
Turn on exterior lights during nighttime hours
Remove any spare keys from outdoor hiding places
