A year ago, we wrote that repairability is just the beginning. This year, our work with Logitech put some numbers behind that idea.

Logitech repair content on iFixit was viewed more than 5 million times. Spare-parts sales grew ninefold year over year. The three most popular guides now draw around 3,000 views apiece every month.

People are looking for ways to keep their gear working. Our job is to make sure they find something useful when they arrive.

When Your Mouse Jitters and Your Earpads Flake

Most people do not usually sit down at their computer thinking, “Today I will investigate the service options for model number X123-B.”

They notice that a mouse no longer glides smoothly. The battery in a headset barely lasts through a meeting. The ear pads are flaking onto their face.

Those problems now lead to real repairs. The Logitech G Pro X Wireless ear pad guide walks through replacing a worn cushion in about five to ten minutes. Battery guides for the G435, G535, and G935 headsets cover a failure that might otherwise retire the whole device. Guides for the MX Master 3S and G Pro X Superlight show how to get inside, clean out debris, diagnose a bad switch, or replace worn mouse feet without mangling the adhesive or scratching the case.

That specificity matters. “Repair your mouse” is daunting. “Warm the adhesive under these feet, remove four screws, and lift here” feels doable.

A Huge Waste Stream in Desk Drawers and Landfills

Small peripherals rarely get the attention given to phones, laptops, and televisions. They are inexpensive, lightweight, and easy to toss into a drawer when one part wears out.

They are also everywhere.

EPA’s last detailed national estimate found that 74.4 million keyboards and mice are trashed each year. But a mouse with worn feet does not necessitate buying a whole new mouse. A headset with a tired battery still contains speakers, microphones, circuit boards, controls, and a perfectly good frame. A shabby ear cushion should be a five-minute repair.

Writing the guide is only one piece of the repair puzzle. The matching part has to be available, reasonably priced, and stocked in the right region.

Logitech and iFixit are still learning how to forecast that demand and keep the right parts moving. This is slow, operational work, but it determines whether a repair option is real when someone needs it.

More Parts, More Models, Fewer Peripherals in the Trash

This year gave us a better view of where people start, which repairs they attempt, and where the process breaks down.

We are using that information to improve search, build out the Logitech Repair Hub, and expand the guides and parts available across mice, keyboards, and headsets. We’re paying particular attention to repairs people are already asking for: batteries that no longer hold a charge, worn ear pads and headbands, damaged mouse feet, and the opening procedures that make deeper repairs possible.

Five million views tell us that people want to repair these products. Ninefold growth in parts sales tells us that many are willing to follow through.

Our challenge is making sure that when someone searches for a fix, the guide is clear, the part is available, and the repair feels easier than shopping for a replacement. Here’s to another year of successful fixes.
