Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Thursday said the government has decided to give Rs two lakh to each of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides victims who will be rehabilitated.

The CM said that the decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by him, wherein it was decided to allocate more funds to provide the additional amount to the victims.

Satheesan also announced that the export-import operations will commence from Vizhinjam international seaport from August 18 onwards as necessary customs and other clearances have been granted for it.

Speaking at a press conference after the cabinet meeting, he also said that the recent amendment to the central law on minerals mining is against federal principles and Kerala will strongly oppose it.

The CM said that the state will communicate its opposition to the amendments to the central government.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026.
