The doctors across Mumbai on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) commenced the withdrawal of routine OPD services as a mark of protest against the government’s decision to allow the registration of homoeopathy doctors with certificate course in modern pharmacology (CCMP), in the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC). 

The protest is called by the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), and it will be staged across Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hospitals, including KEM Hospital, Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College & General Hospital (Sion), BYL Nair Hospital, and Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital. 

The MARD has launched a protest after the Maharashtra government began the process of granting Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) registration to BHMS practitioners holding the CCMP qualification.

“The move compromises the established medical education standards, professional integrity, and patient safety,” said MARD KEM President Dr. Shubham Solanke, adding that the opposition is only to cross-pathy and the dilution of modern medical education and regulatory standards.

The association demands the suspension of the MMC registration process for CCMP-qualified BHMS practitioners and to hold the decision until the High Court delivers its final judgment.

However, emergency services, casualty, ICUs, labour rooms, IPD services, and all other essential services will continue uninterrupted.

BMC MARD warned that if the registration process is not halted within the next 24 hours, it will intensify its agitation and escalate the withdrawal of services through lawful and democratic means.
