SkyFest 2026, a starlit Big Bear weekend, will twinkle with astro awesomeness

Дата публикации: 30-07-2026 17:00:19

BIG BEAR LAKE? It’s an attention-getter, a light-catching star, a fabulous focus-puller that captivates everyone seeking a beautiful body of water that is high up in the mountains. It is postcard-worthy, in short, but sometimes the lake must make way for another blue icon, the one it so rapturously reflects: the sky above. True, Big Bear’s sky also makes its own headlines — it’s where bald eagles and other raptors famously soar, and dramatic snow clouds gather in the winter — but around the middle of August, far-off stars and galactic gorgeousness take the centerstage. That’s when SkyFest shimmers, giving astronomy buffs and lovers of Big Bear’s epic outdoors scene plenty to go agog over. SkyFest 2026 will up the marvel-filled moxie from Aug. 14 through 16, and, for sure, there will be daytime events in addition to those gatherings that happen while the stars are out.
AND THE PERSEIDS, OF COURSE: That’s right around the time that the famous meteor shower will do its sky-streaking thing, making the well-timed happening perfect for meteor seekers and those looking to soak up general astronomical awesomeness. An afternoon astronomy festival, one that will feature experts and sky-observoing pros, will make its debut in 2026, so head to the Big Bear Lake Convention Center for AstroFestival. Other draws include the opportunity to Stargaze at the Summit, an every-evening event setting up shop at Snow Summit Ski Resort, and a Friday and Saturday astro meet-up for youngsters and their parents at the Big Bear Discovery Center.
DARK SKIES ON THE BIG MOUNTAIN: Pull out your favorite telescope and point it in the direction of this informative site, which details everything set to glimmer at the high-elevation celebration. And even if you don’t take part in anything on the schedule? Gaze above the lake: You might just find the Milky Way, a far-off star you love, or another wonder of the night sky.
