The Haiku project received good news this week. The project has ported the Firefox web browser to the Haiku operating system. This required applying several patches to Mozilla's code and it seemed likely this would prevent Haiku from being able to use the trademarked Firefox name. The good news is Mozilla has agreed to allow Haiku to apply the Firefox name to the ported web browser and has invited the developers to send their compatibility patches upstream. "So, what does this mean for HaikuPorts? We will soon have an official Firefox package with the real branding! But don't worry, Iceweasel isn't going anywhere. I plan to maintain both. The idea is to keep Iceweasel as the privacy-friendly, telemetry-free build, while Firefox will be the fully official, Mozilla-compliant build (with telemetry enabled, once I manage to fix the Glean Rust issues)."
