"Back in the 1970s, a LOT of my friends and classmates got CB radios. They weren't over-the-road truckers; they'd use it to argue and gossip with the neighbors. Then they needed larger antennas and a filter to reduce interference with television signals. Why did they need all this equipment when they could just talk on the phone? Within a few months, most of them had abandoned this fad. A few who were really into it had graduated to ham radios. By about 1980, I never heard anyone mention CB radios again."
