The Greater Chennai Corporation has decided to put the property tax revision on hold with immediate effect following complaints from taxpayers.

The revised tax demand will be rolled back to the amount applicable before the revision. For those who have already paid the revised demand, the excess amount will be adjusted as advance tax against subsequent half-yearly dues, the GCC said.

“The Greater Chennai Corporation had undertaken a property tax revision for certain assessments in the city that were identified as under-assessed. Several grievance petitions were received from the public over the past few days, requesting reconsideration of the revision,” the corporation said in a release on Thursday.

“After examining the revision and the grievances raised by the public, the GCC has decided to put the tax revision on hold with immediate effect,” it said.
