CommonSpirit - Memorial Hospital recently honored Mackenzie Cardosi, RN, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. 

A patient’s spouse nominated Ms. Cardosi for being the calming presence she and her husband needed when they were overwhelmed. 

“[Mackenzie] demonstrated commitment, compassion, professionalism and attentiveness to our needs. She had a challenging case she faced for several hours when she demonstrated her high leveled life-saving skills on my spouse.

She held pressure with all her weight for close to two hours to prevent him from bleeding out. She had to be exhausted by the time she ended her work shift, never complaining and always asking if he needed anything she could get for him. We want to 
acknowledge her skillful talents and the God-given gifts that come from her heart and mind. She is special. We appreciate her and we more than thank her for saving a life today.” 

Ms. Cardosi works in the Cardiac Short Stay Unit at CommonSpirit - Memorial Hospital - Chattanooga, and has worked at CommonSpirit since 2025. 

Officials said, "CommonSpirit is pleased to partner with the DAISY Foundation to recognize the 
extraordinary difference nurses make in the lives of patients and co-workers. Nurses are chosen each month to receive this wonderful award that honors compassionate care. Honorees receive a bouquet of daisies, a certificate, a copy of her/his nomination letter and a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch - hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa. The honoree's nursing unit also receives a cinnamon doughnut party, because it takes a team for a 
nurse to achieve his/her best. Tasty Doughnuts generously donates the treats for this worthy cause."
