How did they ever get elected??

There are bad takes, there are embarrassing mistakes, and then there are things said by actual elected officials that make you wonder how the hell they got this far. Somehow, politicians keep producing moments that sound completely made up until you remember that they unfortunately really happened. 😭 So, we want to know: What's the most unfathomably baffling thing you've ever seen a politician do or say?
Maybe it was someone suggesting that scientists should look into whether injecting disinfectant into the human body could help fight COVID.
Perhaps it was a politician who tried to compare the government to Nazi Germany and accidentally referred to the Gestapo as the "gazpacho police."
Or maybe it was someone who brought a literal snowball into Congress as evidence while arguing against climate change...
