You know Nina Dobrev.
Right now, she's shooting the film adaptation of Tessa Bailey’s New York Times bestseller, It Happened One Summer.
If you've read the popular rom-com novel, you'll probably have guessed that Nina is starring as the main character, Piper Bellinger. For those unfamiliar, Piper is "a glamorous L.A. It Girl whose glittering world comes crashing down after a viral mishap gets her canceled overnight."
The logline continues: "Cut off from her wealthy family’s safety net, she is exiled to a rugged fishing town with one ultimatum: fix up her late father’s dive bar—or lose everything. There, she butts heads with Brendan, a gruff sea captain who has zero patience for influencers. He’s the last person she expected, and exactly what she needs."
Sound enticing? Well, Nina just shared a first look at herself in character, and the blonde transformation genuinely made me do a double take.
With the bandana, too. Seriously, who is that?!
Nina has stayed true to her signature brunette look throughout her career, so the new blonde moment is taking fans by surprise. (And it sounds like Nina is just as shocked as the rest of us, writing on her IG story that she "never thought" she'd be a blonde.)
Right now, it's unclear whether it's a wig or Nina's own hair. But on Reddit, people have concerns, with some hair experts suggesting that it's "not the right shade of blonde for her skin tone at all." Someone even went as far as to say it looks "green."
"I love her, but hate this shade!" someone wrote, weighing in on a whole debate about color theory. Someone else suggested that they "need to change the tan shade they are using on her" to make the hair color look more suitable.
In the thread, people pretty unanimously felt that something was off with the shade, which prompted a discussion about why some people suit blonde hair better than others. "She has similar type of features as me (naturally, really dark hair, really dark eyes combo), and I tried it, and it doesn’t work with blonde," one user wrote. Countering this, someone else said: "Plenty of dark-haired and dark-eyed people look good as blondes — like Shakira. Most 'natural blondes' are actually medium to dark brunettes by adulthood."
