Legendary Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher and broadcaster Orel Hershiser was recognized with the 2,853rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Aug. 13 at 6755 Hollywood Blvd.  

“It’s humbling. I’m grateful to be recognized in Hollywood,” Hershiser said minutes after his star was unveiled. “It felt like a family reunion. I was grateful I got to see everybody that came out.” 

The star’s location was selected to honor the 67 scoreless innings Hershiser pitched during the 1988 baseball season, as well as 55, the number on his uniform. Nicknamed the Bulldog, Hershiser played with the Dodgers from 1983-94, and notably helped lead the team to a World Series championship in 1988. He finished the 1988 regular season with 59 consecutive scoreless innings pitched, breaking a record held by Dodger pitcher Don Drysdale, and went on to pitch an additional eight scoreless innings in the postseason, totaling 67, a record he still holds today. After retiring as a player in 2000, Hershiser remained in the Los Angeles Dodgers family as a broadcaster and game analyst, currently paired with play-by-play announcer Joe Davis on SportsNet LA. 

Hershiser said he is humbled by the recognition of receiving a star on the Walk of Fame and credited the Dodgers organization, players and fans for his success.  

“To succeed with a ball and to succeed with a microphone, it depends on a team. And there is going to be one name on this star, but there could be hundreds. It’s a team sport,” Hershiser said, his voice full of emotion. “There could be hundreds, but if I could put one more word on that star, it would go above my name and it would be the word, Dodger.” 

Hershiser was joined at the star ceremony by current Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, recently retired pitcher Clayton Kershaw and infielder Miguel Rojas. Award-winning sports broadcaster Bob Costas served as emcee. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce was represented by President and CEO Ron Frierson, COO Dan Halden and Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez.
