Apple reportedly wants to secure content deals with publishers to give Siri AI access to the latest news and information. It is supposedly proposing multi-year agreements with publishers for this.

As part of the deal, Apple will pay publishers every time their content is used or displayed in Siri AI.

Apple wants fresh news to make Siri smarter

Apple will introduce a vastly improved AI-powered version of Siri with iOS 27 this year. Based on early feedback and reports, it seems Siri will finally live up to its potential. As part of the revamp, Apple will also introduce a dedicated Siri AI app.

To deliver a better end-user experience, Apple wants Siri to have access to the latest news and information. To make that possible, Apple wants to strike deals with publishers to give Siri access to their reporting.

“Apple has proposed a variable compensation plan, with payments made to partner publishers when their content is used, some of the people said. The company has discussed a possible nine-figure budget for the payments, they said,” reports The Wall Street Journal.

Some publishers already have licensing deals with OpenAI, Google and other tech giants, allowing them to use their content for AI training and other purposes.

Apple is proposing a slightly different approach, paying publishers based on how frequently Siri AI uses or displays their content.

A smarter Siri needs access to better information

With AI eating into publishers’ revenue due to falling Google search traffic, Apple’s proposal could give them an additional revenue stream. Plus, it will also help Siri AI deliver more reliable and up-to-date information.

Apple can only deliver a smarter Siri when it can reliably answer questions about what’s happening in the world right now. Without that, the entire experience will fall apart.

Apple already pays publishers that participate in Apple News. But its proposed Siri AI deals would go a step further, paying publishers based on how frequently Siri AI uses or displays their content.
