Waymo ended its waitlist this week and opened its Dallas robotaxi service to anyone who downloads the company’s app.

Since rolling out the service in Dallas in February, California-based Waymo has autonomously chauffeured some 150,000 customers in Jaguar I-PACE electric SUVs via its waitlist. Now the wait is no more.

TechCrunch reported that Waymo uses a waitlist in every new market before opening the app to all riders. Since the local service’s debut, Waymo’s footprint has covered 50 square miles of central Dallas. The territory is bordered by Northwest Highway to the north and by the Bishop Arts District and parts of South Dallas to the south.

The company said it is continuing fully autonomous testing at Dallas Love Field and expects to serve travelers there soon. Waymo also plans to begin autonomous testing on Dallas freeways, which it said is the final step before offering those routes to riders.

Waymo began testing its robotaxis in Dallas last summer. The company is partnering with Avis to provide end-to-end fleet management services in the North Texas city, including infrastructure, vehicle readiness, maintenance and general depot operations.

‘A new pathway to safe, independent travel’

Waymo said the Dallas community has embraced the service as a way to expand transportation options across the region.

“Waymo autonomous vehicles are not just the future — they’re a transformational step forward for the epilepsy community and anyone living with medical conditions that limit their ability to drive, creating a new pathway to safe, independent travel,” Chris Justl, CEO of Epilepsy Foundation Texas, said in a statement. “At Epilepsy Foundation Texas, we’re proud to partner with Waymo to help bring this future to life across Texas.”

Alphabet company Waymo, based in Mountain View, California, offers service in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Nashville, Miami, Orlando, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, and in partnership with Uber in Austin and Atlanta. The company has said it plans to expand to London before the end of the year, along with additional U.S. cities.

The company aims to serve more than 1 million passengers in 2026.
