Europe’s competitiveness challenge cannot be reduced to a race for lower costs or deregulation but must instead be built on the strengths of Europe's unique social market economy. Competitiveness and sustainable economic growth are mutually reinforcing: stable macroeconomic governance, social welfare, economic and social cohesion, open and fair competition, and price stability are pre-conditions for long-term resilience and prosperity. At the same time, Europe’s competitiveness model must support the Union’s broader strategic objectives, notably the green and digital transitions, while preserving economic and social convergence across Member States and regions.Against a backdrop of geopolitical fragmentation, demographic pressures and lower productivity growth, the Section for Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion (ECO section) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) decided to organise a high-level conference to explore how the EU can better mobilise savings for productive investment, maintain sustainable public debt levels that preserve fiscal space for strategic public investment, and strengthen the interaction between public and private financing. This event will also address whether Europe can remain globally competitive without deeper Economic and Monetary Union integration, including stronger macroeconomic coordination, common stabilisation capacities, and more integrated financial and capital markets. The event will be webstreamed and open to all interested stakeholders. No registration is needed and participation is free of charge.Follow the event on X: @EESC_ECO | #EUeconomy #EUCompetitiveness Ask your questions to the panelists via Sli.do with the event code: #EUeconomy
