After perusing the vintage shelves of Circa 1857 just off Baton Rouge’s Government Street, antique-lovers may stumble upon a new after-hours lounge tucked right down the hall, no password required. Beginning July 17, Hearsay Social Club will be opening Thursdays and Fridays from 4 pm to 11 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 11 pm. “It's a beautiful space and we are super excited to offer a really creative and unique setting for Baton Rouge,” said Circa co-owner, Garret Kemp. “Aside from the space and atmosphere, our cocktails will speak for themselves … We are definitely trying to elevate the cocktail industry.” After acquiring Circa 1857 around 2016 and being inspired by speakeasy-style bars in Chicago and Texas, Kemp elected to transform an empty storage room in the back of the complex into a whimsical, cocktail hideaway. Hearsay Social Club will serve snacks and external cuisine from visiting chefs and food trucks, as well as artisanal cocktails infused with the expertise of former Blend owner and certified sommelier, Scott Higgins.
