Researchers from the Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergology delivered several key presentations at the prestigious event.

The EAACI 2026 Congress, held in Istanbul, brought together leading global experts in allergology and clinical immunology. Researchers from the Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergology at Sechenov University’s Institute of Clinical Medicine delivered several key presentations at the prestigious event.
A highlight of the congress was the presentation of the Charles Blackley Award 2026 to Professor Rudolf Valenta of Sechenov University, a pioneer in molecular allergology. The award recognized his outstanding contributions to allergen structure research, molecular diagnostics for allergic diseases, and novel approaches to allergen-specific immunotherapy. Today, the Blackley Award ranks among the most distinguished international honors in the field.
Professor Daria Fomina drew significant attention with her report on recurrent angioedema - one of the most complex and heterogeneous conditions in clinical allergology. She presented modern diagnostic strategies, risk assessment methods, and personalized treatment approaches, with a special focus on severe cases and the need for multidisciplinary patient management. Her presentation became one of the most widely discussed sessions at the congress.
Postgraduate researcher Ekaterina Nikitina showcased multiple studies on severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions. She introduced a new predictive model for assessing mortality risk in Stevens–Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, demonstrating that a combination of hypoalbuminemia, systemic inflammatory response markers, and low serum bicarbonate levels enables accurate prognosis and timely clinical decision-making. Her second study, on infectious complications and modern therapeutic strategies for these life-threatening conditions, also sparked lively expert debate.
“The participation of Sechenov University staff at Europe’s largest scientific forum underscores the high caliber of research conducted at our Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergology and strengthens international collaboration in allergology, immunology, and drug safety,” commented Academician Alexander Karaulov, Head of the Department and Director of the Immunopathology Laboratory at Sechenov University. “For our young scientists and postgraduates, this is an invaluable opportunity to present their findings, benchmark against international peers, discuss complex clinical cases, and identify emerging global trends.”
The EAACI Congress remains the premier platform for fundamental and clinical research in allergology and immunology, annually attracting thousands of researchers, clinicians, and representatives from scientific centers worldwide.
