Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription can play the full version of NBA 2K26 free through Nintendo's Game Trials program until August 13.

The trial gives access to the complete game and online multiplayer. Progress in modes such as MyCareer and The City will carry over if the full game is purchased. After August 13 at 11:59 p.m. PDT, the trial version will no longer launch unless the game is bought.

The trial comes as 2K prepares to reveal NBA 2K27 on August 18.

What the NBA 2K26 Trial Includes

Subscribers can download the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 version of NBA 2K26 and play the full game, including online multiplayer. Progress in MyCareer and The City is saved if the full game is purchased after the trial.

Nintendo Switch Online is a paid subscription that includes access to classic NES, SNES, and Game Boy games. The Expansion Pass adds N64 and Game Boy Advance titles.

The service also offers free DLC for select first-party games, such as the Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Happy Home Paradise for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

NBA 2K26 adds improvements over previous entries both on and off the court. The game adds multiple options to the MyPlayer builder, letting players customize their in-game character with custom layup packages and new animations.

It also introduced the ProPLAY motion engine, which overhauls player collision and momentum, speeds up the game, and adds new options for crossovers and combinations.

How to Access the NBA 2K26 Trial and August 18 Reveal

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers who want to try NBA 2K26 at no cost need to do so before the deadline:

1. Confirm an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, since the trial requires one.
2. Download NBA 2K26 for Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 from the Game Trials section before August 13 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
3. Play the full game and online multiplayer during the trial window.
4. Buy the full game to keep progress in MyCareer and The City, as the trial will not launch after the deadline.

The free trial comes as 2K prepares to announce NBA 2K27. The full gameplay reveal is scheduled for August 18, with San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama confirmed as the cover athlete. 2K plans to share all details about the new game in a single presentation on August 18, instead of its usual staggered reveals.

The NBA 2K26 Game Trial runs until August 13 at 11:59 p.m. PDT for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. GameRant notes that Nintendo's Game Trials program has regularly offered popular games, including EA Sports FC 26 in June, the Switch 2 version of Madden NFL 26 in January, and Ball x Pit in late May 2026. After the trial ends, NBA 2K26 cannot be launched unless the full game is purchased.
