Rosatom is ready for a dialogue with Hungary’s new government on the Paks-2 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), Chief Executive Officer of Russia’s state corporation Alexey Likhachev said, adding though that no inquiries have been received by the Russian nuclear specialists so far.

"Regarding engagement with the new Hungarian government, as we have previously stated we are ready for dialogue and prepared to address any questions the Hungarian leadership may have, using facts and figures. So far, we have received no inquiries," he told the sectoral Strana Rosatom (Rosatom Country) newspaper.

A large number of statements and publications regarding the project have appeared in the Hungarian media, covering a wide range of viewpoints, the chief executive noted. "We expect the discussion in Hungary concerning the country’s energy security and the role of nuclear power to be conducted in a pragmatic and constructive manner. The country’s development requires a swift response to the energy challenges facing the economy. According to many experts, a hypothetical revision of the key parameters of the Paks-2 NPP project would necessitate not only a significant postponement of the power units’ commissioning dates but also a fundamental overhaul of the project’s financial model, which would inevitably impact the country’s overall progress and the well-being of its citizens," he stressed.
