Watts Bar nuclear plant marks 30 years as TVA faces growing need for workers

 The Tennessee Valley Authority is celebrating 30 years since Unit 1 at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant began generating electricity in Rhea County. The plant's two reactors now provide enough electricity to power more than 1 million homes and employ hundreds of workers. The anniversary highlights the personal impact of the plant on employees like Jim Shilling, who has worked there for 16 years, while also looking toward the future as TVA faces a growing need for skilled workers. TVA estimates it will need about 5,000 additional workers across the Tennessee Valley and is working with schools, industry partners and local unions to prepare the next generation of workers for careers in the energy industry.
