Garret Dillahunt stops by Flickering Myth to talk DC’s Lanterns…

“I think I’m a good foil for the Lanterns,” says actor Garret Dillahunt about his upcoming role in DC Studios’ Lanterns. Ahead of the series release, Dillahunt took the time to speak with me about what he’s cooking up with his return to the western, given his turn in the genre-bending new superhero series coming to HBO Max.

While not giving much away, Dillahunt also teases how the interactions between Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre are what we really need to see. Saying, “I’m excited for fans to see the interplay between Kyle and Aaron; I think they got great chemistry, I think they’re very different Lanterns. Then Nathan (Fillion) comes in near the end…”

The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery with cosmic ties as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Alongside Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, the cast of Lanterns also includes Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kelly, Garrett Dillahunt as William Macon, Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, Sherman Augustus and J. Alphonse Nicholson as John Senior, Jasmine Cephas Jones as Bernadette Stewart, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.

Lanterns will premiere on HBO Max on August 17th 2026.
