I don't know if anyone here remembers my post about me repairing an old Belle Cement Mixer about a year ago........https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/belle-cement-mixer-gearbox.144632/
Anyway, back then I changed the motor on the mixer for one that runs at 1420rpm, still going good.
Since I have the old motor that I took off the mixer I thought that I might as well save it and tidy it up as a spare time job. So, wire brush on angle grinder, paint job and new plastic box got and fitted to hold the start cap and domino connector.
But, when I fired it up I noticed it rattling and vibrating quite a bit and if it's run for a few minutes the casing gets quite warm, almost too hot to put your hand on.
Should I take it apart and look for worn bearings or would it be something else that's wrong or should I just scrap it and put it down to waste of time. I'm not bothered which road to take as I have no purpose for the old motor. I don't even know what make of motor it is as as the details on the plate are very vague.
Certainly worth a look. It sounds like something is rubbing inside.
There is a good chance that it has oilite bushes and not bearings.
There might be a centrifugal switch and if it is not working correctly that would cause the overheating.
