Arrest warrants for the suspect were issued after he was released the previous day, and on July 13 he was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop in the community of Thorncliffe.

The arrest led to police discovering 46.3 grams of powder and crack cocaine in 39 wrapped baggies, 11 pills suspected to be fentanyl and a small amount of cash.

Jayson McCormack, 21, of Calgary, was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, resisting arrest and multiple firearms-related offences.

McCormack will appear in court Aug. 31.

Another man was arrested after a property search on March 26, with the assistance of the RCMP response team, in the 245000 block of Range Road 283 in Rocky View County.

Another search the same day at an apartment in the 1800 block of 26th Avenue S.W. led to the arrest of two men and two vehicles searched.

“Officers seized 13 rifles, including four hidden in a concealed room, two loaded handguns, a loaded shotgun, 760 rounds of ammunition, body armour, 81.8 grams of powder and crack cocaine, 64.8 grams of MDMA, $9,630 in cash, scales, drug packaging materials and multiple cellphones.

A stolen Dodge Challenger and a stolen Dodge ram that had been revinned were also seized.

On July 16, 30-year-old Ahed Alwan and 29-year-old Asrar Mansouri of Calgary were arrested.

“Alwan was charged with firearms and proceeds of crimes offenses (and) Mansouri was charged with firearms, drug trafficking, and proceeds of crime offences,” Gow said.

A third suspect, 45-year-old Christopher Hayward of Calgary, is wanted for multiple counts of firearms-related offences, including four counts of breaching a firearms prohibition, two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and impersonation to gain advantage of the proceeds of crime.

Hayward is described as around five feet seven inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair, green eyes and tattoos on his arms and chest.

Following a shooting near Edworthy Park on Monday that left an officer injured, Gow said the individual involved in the incident is not part of their investigation.

Since the shooter was identified as a member of an organized crime group, it speaks to the concern of organized crime in Calgary shared by residents and officers, Gow said.

“Although the timeliness of this release is not connected, it’s salient to the dangers that organized crime brings, and I think the table in front of us speaks volumes to that to the potential danger that they bring,” Gow said.

Despite dismantling an eight-person operation, not every person involved in the investigation has received charges, Gow said.

“There are others involved, there are connections to other crime groups, there are partnerships and relationships with other groups that they come into contact with, sometimes closely and sometimes very casually where they come and go to do business, but there are other reaching aspects to the people that these people are involved with,” Gow said.

This is the end of the investigation, but police will fully investigate the origin of the seized weapons and if they were used in other crimes.
