Phillip Schofield has confessed that he will 'never work for ITV again' despite 'best friends' Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly hosting the flagship show.

The former This Morning star, 62, vowed never to return to the broadcaster as he starred on Channel 5's survival show Cast Away, which saw him using all his instincts to survive while stranded on a deserted island.

During the series, which is set to air on Monday for three consecutive weeks, saw Phillip make a damning vow never to return after he was allegedly forced to leave his job after a romance with a younger showrunner.

In the show, he ruled out making an appearance on the show's autumn flagship I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! despite the high odds of him starring on the show and his 'bestfriends' hosting it.

The disgraced presenter said: "I'm apparently four to one to do the other jungle programme (ITV's I'm A Celebrity).'

'Although my best mates host it, there are some channels you just won't work for.

'There are just some people you won't work for.'

In the first episode of Cast Away, Phillip, who was wearing his wedding ring, is seen having a barbecue with his wife, Stephanie, as well as their two daughters, Molly, 31, and Ruby, 28,

Phillip then jets off to a deserted island, just off the coast of Madagascar, which sees him forced to use his survival instincts stay alive.

He is seen pushing his limits to forage and hunt for food and water while taking shelter in a flimsy hut.

During the programme, Phillip clarifies that he didn't resign from his position of 22 years but was in fact axed from the morning show by ITV bosses.

When asked if he thought he might end up quitting the island he replied: 'It is inconceivable that I would quit.

'I don't quit. I'm fired. But I never quit.'

Phillip is seen in tears while discussing his exit from This Morning, saying in a voiceover for Castaway's first trailer: 'I've been cast away on a desert island completely on my own.

'All I have is camera gear and I can say whatever I want about whatever I want.

'It's my chance to tell my side of my story.'

'I know what I did was unwise. But is it enough to absolutely destroy someone?'

Viewers will see the axed presenter reflect on the emotional impact of his exile from mainstream TV after news of his affair with a 20-year old runner on This Morning came to light.

It's understood that Schofield was given a handheld camera, body cameras and a sound pack before being left to record his emotional week-and-a-half long journey.

The TV comeback has been met with disdain by the public with one declaring: 'If this is designed to make people feel sorry for him, it will backfire massively. People were just starting to forget, and now they are raking it all up again.'

One said: 'There's shameless. Totally shameless,' while another added: 'How tke [sic] f*** is Phillip Schofield getting a tv show? This is a disgrace.'

Scott Bryan added: 'Quite shocked by that Phillip Schofield show but then I remembered that this is Channel 5 so hardly not surprising.'

TalkTV presenter Renée Hoenderkamp branded the star as a 'narcissist', adding that she did not think he should be having anymore screen time. She said: 'Is this not a chance for a narcissist to just have more me time on screen? I don't want to know his story, I'm not interested in it.'

In a statement to promote the series ,Philip said: 'This is most definitely a first for me and the only thing I felt compelled to do.'

'It appealed to me on so many levels. I've recently had a lot of time to think about my life, what went right and what went wrong, but I've always had the safe arms of friends and family wrapped around me.'

While Phillip was alone on the island for ten days, the production team were stationed 30 minutes offshore, and were told only to intervene in the event of an extreme emergency

'This time it's just me, no 'phone, no comforts, no crew and only lip balm as a luxury. I'm looking forward to exploring the island, trying to tie knots to secure my shelter and foraging and fending for myself in the wild … with no help.'

'Maybe I'll be Robinson Crusoe, or maybe I'll just be Tom Hank's Wilson and quietly drift off into the wild blue yonder!!'

Phillip's mental health and physical safety were monitored as the experience progressed.
