This Morning could see the return of three fan favourite hosts after the show's editor, Martin Frizell, announced he was standing down from the role after 10 years.

Martin, 65, will be leaving his role in spring next year, with his replacement still to be announced.

And with a new editor in charge, there is speculation Amanda Holden, Rylan Clark and Ruth Langsford could be back on the sofa again - especially if Associate Editor Vivek Sharma fills the role.

Sources claim Rylan could be given a regular slot, while Amanda, 53, and Ruth, 64, will make their comeback for the first time since their feuds with ex-host Phillip Schofield.

'Despite being sidelined on the show by Phillip and Martin, Rylan, Amanda and Ruth are still incredibly popular at ITV,' a source told The Sun

'They are all hugely successful and experienced presenters and the viewers have always loved them - they are also huge favourites of Vivek.

'It wouldn't surprise anyone if those three return to the This Morning studio when Martin leaves - they should never have left in the first place. Fans will be over the moon if they return.'

MailOnline has contacted ITV, Rylan, Amanda and Ruth's representatives for comment.

Earlier this month, Amanda addressed the rumours she is set to take over from Cat Deeley on This Morning.

Cat, 48, and Ben Shephard, 49, replaced Holly Willoughby, 43, and Phillip Schofield, 62, in March.

There was speculation Amanda - who filled in for Holly during her maternity leave and appeared on the show from 2014 to 2019 - might take over.

However, the Britain's Got Talent judge, 53, shut it down on her Heart Breakfast show.

'First of all, I absolutely love Cat Deeley,' Amanda said.

'She’s super successful, I’ve always admired her, she’s brilliant, and she’s a real laugh. I hate seeing headlines that say, "I’m taking over from Cat Deeley" when I think she’s doing such a good job on This Morning.'

Ruth and Eamonn were controversially axed from This Morning after 15 years in 2022, having been a fixture on the Friday show - now hosted by Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond

Cat and Ben were were announced as the new hosts of This Morning back in February following Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby's [pictured last year] departures

Cat and Ben, who were were announced as the new hosts of This Morning back in February following Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby's departures, will remain fronting the daytime programme.

ITV insiders say the pair have the 'full support' of the channel's director of television Kevin Lygo, who is said to 'adore' Cat.

A source told MailOnline: 'Kevin was very much behind hiring Cat, along with Martin, they pulled out the stops to get her and there were lots of obstacles.

'She is loved at ITV and they don't want her to go anywhere. As for Ben, he is loved by ITV's viewers. Martin has known that he would be going for some time now, even when he hired Cat and Ben.

'Everyone at ITV is thrilled with how things have calmed down since they have taken over, they have steadied the ship and the show is no longer making headlines for the wrong reasons.'

The duo were locked in talks for months while a whole host of presenters including Craig Doyle, Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson temporarily took over hosting duties following the exit of Holly Willoughby, 43, and Phillip Schofield, 62.

Phillip resigned in disgrace after more than 20 years on the programme in May 2023 after lying about an affair with a younger colleague.

ITV bosses were forced to deny 'turning a blind eye' to the affair before it came out in public, prompting a huge public spat between Phillip and his former friend Holly - who herself resigned five months later after being informed by police of a horrific plot to kill her.

Amanda's feud with Phil erupted after she reportedly accused him of costing her a job alongside him on This Morning.

Sources told The Sun in June 2019 that Phillip allegedly branded Amanda 'difficult to manage' and 'actively campaigned' for Rochelle Humes to fill the slot instead.

'Phillip actively campaigned for Rochelle Humes to get the job despite Amanda being more experienced - and having been told privately she’d got the gig,' a former daytime executive said at the time.

Despite obvious tension between Ruth, Eamonn and Phil, the now ex couple presented This Morning for a segment which saw Phillip come out (pictured in 2020)

Martin announced he was stepping down on Wednesday, revealing his departure was due to 'family priorities changing' (pictured with wife Fiona Phillips in 2016)

'She feels Phil unfairly used his powers of persuasion. She was told he’d chosen Rochelle because she was easier to ‘manage’ on air - and understandably that incensed her.'

Amanda reportedly took the issue to ITV chief Kevin Lygo at the time.

Meanwhile in 2019, Ruth filed an official complaint against Phillip.

While working on Loose Women, Ruth was cut off mid-link by Phillip as she was explaining what was coming up on the show during a mini-segment on This Morning

Phil said: 'Guys, we're going to have to jump in there and stop you I'm afraid because we're a bit tight for time at this end. Thank you, Ruth.'

A clearly unimpressed Ruth responded: 'Well I only had about two more words to say,' and looked away from the camera.

Speaking about the incident in the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine in February 2022, Eamonn went public in his condemnation of Phillip, saying Ruth is one of many people in the industry to be “snubbed” by the presenter.

He said: 'Phillip is renowned for snubbing people. He’s very passive-aggressive. It’s up to Ruth to say how she felt, but I was feeling hurt for her. No one would have snubbed me like that.'

He added. 'I don't go for presenters who think they have a special privilege or aura or influence.'

The uncomfortable relationship between Eamonn and Ruth and Phil spilled out in front of a live television audience during the 2020 NTAs, when Phillip passed a trophy won by This Morning to Ruth during an acceptance speech, giving her the chance to say a few words.

And in the press room afterwards when the This Morning team posed up with their trophy, Eamonn attempted to take the gong off Phillip, suggesting he was taking all the glory.

Despite obvious tension between the trio, the following month Eamonn and Ruth presented This Morning for a segment which saw Phillip come out.

Phillip, sitting down alongside Holly on the sofa, hugged Ruth and Eamonn several times, saying “thank you” to his co-hosts over and over again.

After being commended for his bravery by Ruth, Eammon added: 'Phillip, nobody should be embarrassed about their sexuality.

'It’s fantastic that so many people will be strengthened by what you said.'

Two years later, Ruth and Eamonn were controversially axed from This Morning after 15 years, having been a fixture on the Friday show - now hosted by Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.

Eamonn was particularly aggrieved about being let go by ITV, claiming he was never given an accurate reason.

His culling was made even more frustrating by his belief Phillip had been given unwavering support by ITV, despite his behaviour off set, a belief shared by Phillip’s former co-host Fern Britton and Amanda.

Eamonn and Loose Women star Ruth announced their plans to divorce in June after 14 years of marriage and 27 years together.

Martin announced he was stepping down on Wednesday, revealing his departure was due to 'family priorities changing'.

The editor, 65, who is married to former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips, joined the broadcaster in 2014 as editor of Loose Women before taking over at This Morning.

Fiona, 63, revealed in July 2023 that she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's the previous year.

Martin said in a statement: 'Next year I'm expecting my family priorities to change so I need to free up time for them.

'I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly but it's an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment and I won't be able to do both.'
