George Clooney and wife Amal appear to have become fast friends with Aussie actor Joel Edgerton and his partner Christine Centenera.

The friendly couples were seen on a double date in Venice, Italy as they all went on a romantic night time boat ride in the canals.

Joel, 50, who recently starred in The Boys in the Boat, directed by George, 63, looked elated as he shared a laugh with his friends.

The Aussie hunk matched his American counterpart in all black attire, with Joel opting for a white T-shirt under his coat and a beanie to keep warm.

One by one the thespians stepped down into the boat ahead of their romantic night out with their respective partners.

Joel was every inch the gentleman as he turned back to help his long-time partner, Vogue Australia Editor in Chief Christine, 43, as she turned heads in a racy black gown with a revealing neckline.

George followed the couple, accepting the help of the staff as he carefully made his way down into the boat. 

Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Amal, 46, stole the show in a stunning emerald green gown as she was the last to follow.

She reached out for her famous husband's helping hand, putting on a leggy display with her thigh high split. 

Joel and Christine were content to sit in the back of the boat together while George and Amal enjoyed the cool breeze from the front.  

George and Joel appear to have become fast friends since working on the drama film The Boys in the Boat together, which first premiered in December 2023.

Joel has the starring role in the flick which was directed by George and tells the true story of nine student athletes.

The film follows the University of Washington crew team that represented the United States at the 1936 Summer Olympic games in Berlin.

It is based on the 2013 book of the same name by Daniel James Brown and also stars Callum Turner.

The film was released by Amazon MGM Studios in the United States on December 25 and came to Australian cinemas on January 4th 2024.
