19:35 | Nadal: 'I wasn't sure if I could make it through'

Nadal admits he wasn't sure if he would be able to make it through this five set thriller, but the atmosphere on Centre Court saw him through. 

He's won 22 Grand Slams for a reason and you would not bet against him defying injury to win another here. 

It's been a pleasure to watch him today. Thanks for following along with us.

It's done. Finished. Over. After over four hours of incredible tennis, Rafa Nadal is in to another semi-final. Of course. 

He looked like he might be forced to quit in the second set, he trailed 1-0 and 2-1, but he fought back like only true champions can. We have witnessed greatness on Centre Court today and you can only stand and applaud. 

A word too for Taylor Fritz. He played his part in an enthralling contest and may well have come out on top against anybody else. And it was his first Grand Slam quarter-final too. Hats off to that man. 

But today belongs to Rafa. He'll face Nick Kyrgios in the semi-final.

Nadal goes long. Match point saved by Fritz but now Nadal will serve.

Match point Nadal. What a shot down the line.

Nadal is nearly there. He breaks Fritz and then holds serve twice. The American can give no more, he's up against an absolute machine here who has Centre Court on its feet.

Two points in a row for Fritz - one on Nadal's serve and then a brilliant ace.

A glimmer of hope for Fritz as he wins a point on Nadal's serve.

Make that five! This is incredible from Nadal. He's halfway there.

Nadal breaks Fritz again! He's four points to the good now.

A reminder that it's the first person to win 10 points, with a margin of two points. 

Nadal wins the first point on Fritz's serve and then wins both of his own.

We're heading to that tiebreaker. No let up from Nadal as he soars through his service game without dropping a point.

This is absolutely nerveless stuff from Fritz. The biggest game of his career and he holds serve with a superb ace. Nadal must now serve to stay in the match again. 

If he does, we're heading for a tiebreak.

Absolutely magnificent from Nadal. A forehand down the line, a ferocious backhand, he's got it all. He eventually holds serve with a deft drop shot.

Fritz just about holds serve after Nadal takes it to deuce. If he breaks the second seed now, he'll make history and earn a semi-final spot.

Unbelievable. Just as you thought Nadal might be edging towards victory, he is broken by Fritz. What a magnificent response from the American. We're level again.

Is that the moment? Nadal sees three break points come and go and the momentum appears to swing in Fritz's favour, but somehow the Spaniard drags himself back into it with some mesmerising shots. 

He finally wins the fifth deuce and he's now two games away from an incredible victory. This is enthralling tennis.

That's right, we're still on serve. This game was much tighter though as Fritz took it to deuce, but Nadal wins it as the American smashes into the net.

Remarkable. Now Fritz holds comfortably. These two were breaking each other with ease in the last set, now it seems the first one to do so in this decider might just claim victory. It's on a knife edge.

How easy was that from Nadal? He holds superbly, with such great intensity. As you were.

F1 driver George Russell is among the crowd at Wimbledon today watching Rafael Nadal. Perhaps shades here of the Australian Open 2021 when Fritz had Novak Djokovic on the ropes when the Serb had an ab muscle problem. The American was unable to finish him off that day, it might yet be different here. Fritz’s Mum, Kathy May, reached the Wimbledon fourth round in 1977.

Fritz goes 0-15 up in Nadal's first service game of the final set, but the Spaniard fights back and ends up taking the game in comfortable style.

This is Taylor Fritz's first ever Grand Slam quarter-final and he's facing the most successful man in the sport's history. But he's showing no nerves and starts the deciding set perfectly by holding serve without dropping a point.

He makes it look so easy. Nadal wraps up the fourth set by not dropping a point in the final game, finishing the job with an epic forehand. 

We are going the distance - has the momentum switched in Nadal's favour? You can't take your eyes off this.

Oh my word! This is an absolutely herculean effort from Nadal and he has broken Fritz. The American challenged the call, but his shot was beyond the baseline. 

Nadal will now serve for the set to take this match to a decider.

Nadal holds serve! When you're a 22-time Grand Slam champion you don't just give up. 

We're now into the fourth hour of this epic contest.

Now Fritz is one game away. Nadal has a break point but he fails to convert it, allowing the American to fight back and hold serve. 

If he breaks Nadal now, he'll be in his first ever Grand Slam semi-final.

What a topsy-turvy set this is. Both players have now broken twice and we're level at 4-4. Fritz stands two games away from victory.
