UFC star Colby Covington makes a stunning claim that Paddy Pimblett is only relevant because he has a 'bowl cut and an accent'.

Pimblett, 28, is 5-0 since signing with the UFC back in 2021. The Scouse sensation recently secured his biggest career win in a unanimous decision over Tony Ferguson at UFC 296.

He showed his grappling prowess through 15 minutes to score 30-27 in all three judges' score cards. 

Despite his win over the MMA icon, Covington was quick to discredit the Englishman.

Covington was asked to give his thoughts on comments from his rivals, including Pimblett. Speaking on the PBD Podcast, the American said: 'They're talking the talk, they're not going to walk the walk.

'Paddy … if he didn't have a bowl cut and an accent, nobody would care about Paddy. 

'That's the only reason they like him, is a bowl cut and an accent. He's not even a good fighter.

'He'll never be a top-30 fighter. The closest he'll ever get to fighting for a world title is if he got on his knees and came and sniffed my jockstrap.'

Despite his wins over Jordan Leavitt, Jared Gordon and Ferguson, it's fair to say that Pimblett will not be fighting for a world title anytime soon and has a lot of work to do in order to climb up the rankings.

As for Covington, the 35-year-old was convincingly beaten by Leon Edwards at UFC 296 in Las Vegas. The divisive American looked sloppy throughout and it was clear that ring-rust played a real factor in the fight.

Covington dealt with boos as loud as the cheers that had greeted him during his walkout. When he was given the mic after his defeat, the fans let him know what they thought of his performance.

While thanking the troops and lauding Trump, the jeers flooded down and at the end at least provoked an angry reaction from the beaten man, who yelled: 'You're all a bunch of broke b****** anyway.'

Where he goes from here is tough to say, but he seems to be targeting Stephen Thompson, who he called out at his post-fight press conference. Covington has had four title fights in total and never managed to claim the welterweight belt so it seems a long road back if he is to every have a chance at gold again, despite labelling himself one of the greatest welterweights of all time.
