Sheffield United are in talks with Atletico Madrid over a deal for Croatian goalkeeper Ivo Grbic, 28, who is out of contract in the summer.

The commanding 6ft 5ins stopper has twice been capped by his national side and was a member of the squad that finished third at the 2022 World Cup. 

However, his game time for his club has been restricted with Atletico's Jan Oblak continuing to excel as one of the world's best keepers. 

Grbic is yet to make a first team appearance for Diego Simeone's side, who could be willing to part ways with the plater for only £2million. 

The Blades have been linked with the likes of Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward as Chris Wilder bids to find an upgrade on Wes Foderingham to boost their fading survival hopes. 

The side find themselves bottom of the Premier League on nine points after 20 games, ahead of this weekend's home clash against West Ham.  

The Blades have already added to their roster this month by bringing in Villarreal forward Ben Brereton-Diaz on loan until the end of the campaign. 

Sheffield United are also considering a move for Everton's Mason Holgate who is on loan at Southampton.

The 27-year-old has made just five appearances for Russell Martin's promotion chasers, with his last outing coming in a 2-1 win over West Brom in November.
