Antoine Griezmann has been forced to pull out France's squad for upcoming friendlies against Germany and Chile, bringing an end to his world record run of 84 consecutive matches for his country.

The Atletico Madrid star's remarkable feat for Les Blues stretches back to a 4-0 win over the Netherlands during World Cup qualifying in August 2017. 

The 32-year-old is fourth in the all-time list of appearances for the two-time World Cup winners with 127. He occupies the same position in the goal rankings with 44. 

He has pulled out of Didier Deschamps squad with an ankle injury that has caused him some issues in recent weeks.

Griezmann returned to action last Wednesday, playing 105 minutes of Atleti's Champions League quarter-final second-leg victory over Inter Milan. 

He could only manage 45 minutes for Diego Simeone's side at the weekend when they fell to a humbling 3-0 home defeat to Barcelona. 

Griezmann has been replaced in the squad by former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi. 

The Lazio star has found consistent form since his loan move to Serie A last summer and has chipped in with three goals and three assists in 37 games in all competitions for the Italian club. 

France face Germany in Lyon on March 23 before taking on Chile in Marseille three days later, in their last fixtures ahead of the European Championship this summer.
