An ABC star has been slammed after footage resurfaced of her twerking to the Last Post on ANZAC Day, with an army veteran saying the stunt left fellow diggers 'enraged'.

The video, filmed on ANZAC Day in 2021, shows Race Around the World star Kate McGuinness on a tin roof wearing a red jumper while twerking provocatively as the Last Post plays.

The Last Post is a ceremonial bugle call that traditionally signifies the end of the day and also serves as a ceremonial farewell for fallen soldiers.

Shadow Minister for Defence Industry Phillip Thompson, an army veteran who served in East Timor and Afghanistan, told 2GB's Ben Fordham the video was 'designed to be hurtful' and had left fellow diggers 'enraged'.

'No one that I've ever come across - even those who aren't as supportive of the Australian Defence Force - would ever be so disrespectful.'

'I can't imagine (McGuinness) is going to explain it away by saying this is her way of paying tribute to our troops; it looks like she's taking the piss', Fordham said.

'I think it was designed to stoke division and that's what this grub has achieved,' Thompson replied.

Fordham suggested that if Australia were attacked, it would ironically be the defence force that would 'have McGuinness' back'.

Phillip Thompson described McGuinness' video as 'designed to hurt'

'Absolutely, they would go there, they would go support her and they would do everything to make sure she was ok,' Thompson said.

McGuinness has been a consistent source of controversy for the ABC.

In July, she produced a short film for a filmmaking competition as part of Race Around the World.

In her four-minute entry, titled A Very Relaxing Video, McGuinness launched a foul attack on Rinehart and graphically described assaulting the mining magnate with a stick to 'make one big sausage roll'.

Guest panellist Leigh Sales was the only one of the show's three judges to criticise the remarks, calling them 'nasty'.

The ABC defended the clip as 'intended to be satirical in tone and considered to be editorially justifiable within the context of the program'.

The skit remained online for 25 days before it was taken down days after Rinehart threatened legal action.

'The ABC refers to the film in a recent episode of Race Around the World referencing Mrs Gina Rinehart AO,' ABC managing director Hugh Marks said in a statement.

McGuinness came under fire for her recent short film on Race Around the World, where she made a depraved joke about Gina Rinehart

The ABC has since apologised for McGuinness' comments

'While the Ombudsman has found that the film did not breach the ABC's editorial policies, the ABC acknowledges the episode has fallen short of community expectations.'

'The ABC apologises to Mrs Rinehart and to anyone else affected or upset by the publication of the film.'

Thompson was also quick to take aim at the ABC for initially allowing the film to remain online.

'I think it's disgraceful,' he said.

'You don't have to like Gina Rinehart. You don't have to like what she does ... but to be so disgraceful - this is a public broadcaster that is taxpayer funded and has gone after someone and then gone "Oh, this is fine, it was a contestant that said this" and then left it up for so long.

'It's a biased network, it's not balanced - it should be if it's funded by the taxpayer - and they've acted disgracefully.'
