kate moss' name is instantly synonymous with the world of high fashion.

So fashionistas were left confused on Thursday night, when the 43-time Vogue cover star, 49, was not pictured at both the red carpet and after-parties of the Vogue World event, which saw a slew of stars descend on London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

The former hard-partying star, who has been sober for five years in the wake of decades of raucous behaviour, appeared on a big screen at the event performing an interpretive dance shortly after most attendees had hit the red carpet.

Stars including Sienna Miller, Anna Wintour, Stormzy, Edward Enninful, Jodie Turner-Smith and Alexa Chung sashayed down the red carpet to be snapped by paparazzi, yet Kate was nowhere to be seen.

The camera shutters did not stop later on as the stars headed to after-parties - where both Kate and fellow iconic models Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell were not seen despite on-stage appearances.

Chatting away: Kate's pal Rita Ora was chatting fondly to her rumoured ex Count Nikolai von Bismark

Count your lucky stars you missed it? Nikolai seemed to have a tense chat with Charlotte Tilbury

Late on Thursday afternoon, a host of stars were seen arriving at the event - with Kate, dressed in all-black, warmly greeting aides and organisers - leading the way.

Just hours later the red carpet began, where the star was not present.

Once things kicked off inside, the legendary model was pictured on a screen performing a sultry interpretive dance before Cara Delevingne appeared in the crowds dressed as a punk in a bizarre twist.

The dance was nothing short of sensational and saw Kate strutting down the runway after a screen depicted her seductively moving in a stunning silver dress.

As the show drew to a close, stars began peeling off to after-parties, with the vast majority of revellers heading to Mayfair's George Restaurant.

Kate's rumoured ex Count Nikolai von Bismark was at the after-parties, where he was seen with her pals Rita Ora and Charlotte Tilbury - having an amiable conversation with the former and a seemingly terse chat with the latter.

She was not the only star cutting an illusive figure, as fellow 90s icons were not snapped at the arrivals or conclusion of the event.

The show concluded with Cindy, Christy, Linda and Naomi - branded 'The Original Supermodels' - strutting their stuff down the runway - although they were not pictured at any afterparties as their whereabouts were unknown.

Bash: She was not the only star cutting an illusive figure, as fellow 90s icons were not snapped at the arrivals or conclusion of the event

Party time: Model Ashley Graham put on a very animated display  and even enjoyed a dance in the street

Guided: Emily Ratajkowski appeared a little worse for wear as she was guided through the crowd by a pal

All in the name of fashion: Sienna Miller stole the show on the red carpet

Way back when: Kate's partying days are firmly in the past, since she became teetotal five years ago after years of hard-partying (Kate pictured in 2010)

Kate's partying was previously as famous as her modelling, as she was a member of The Primrose Hill Set - a name given to the all-star group of edgy residents of the leafy neighbourhood, who were known in their heyday for their raucous behaviour.

After attending a week-long detox in Turkey back in June 2015, the runway sensation wound up being escorted off an easyJet flight home after her airport drinking session took a heavy turn.

Kate, who was previously given the nickname The Tank for her love of drink, then quit drinking and hung up her partying boots.

In 2020, her longtime friend, DJ Fat Tony, spoke about her sobriety.

Her producer pal - who himself has been sober for 13 years - said in an interview: 'Kate's been clean for over two years. Me and my sober mates now have a better time than we ever did when we used to drink and take drugs.'

The catwalk queen admitted she's tried to cut down on caffeine and nicotine, and enjoys having more quiet nights in. In 2018, Kate revealed: 'I go to bed, I drink lots of water, not too much coffee, and I'm trying to cut down on cigarettes.'

Vogue World bash was branded the UK's Met Gala by many.

And while the annual New York event is hailed as the most important in the fashion calendar, London's version did not seem to meet the same mark when talent was showcased at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

United: Dame Anna Wintour arrived at Vogue World alongside British Vogue's own editor, Edward Enninful (both pictured with Baz Luhrmann)

Newspaper critics were divided in reviews of the event, which serves as a fundraiser for Britain's performing arts industry, with the magazine's Editor-in-Chief Anna overseeing and Vogue editor Edward Enninful also in attendance.

The Telegraph gave the event a meagre two stars - hitting out at the 'random' nature of proceedings and branding the event 'a fever dream of a procession'.

Elsewhere however, The Evening Standard gushed over Anna's star power, writing: 'It doesn't look like Wintour (who kept her sunglasses on throughout the show) is going to let go of her grasp of fashion anytime yet.'

Victoria Moss of The Evening Standard penned: 'Lady characters, supermodels - Karen Elson! Irina Shayk! Kendall Jenner! Emily Ratajowski! streaming out, and then, the finale, Naomi, Christy, Cindy and Linda!...

'A standing ovation for the cover women, and Vogue’s take on the West End. It doesn’t look like Wintour (who kept her sunglasses on throughout the show) is going to let go of her grasp of fashion anytime yet.

The Guardian's Jess Cartner-Morley wrote: 'This mood of old-school elegance was a notable departure from the rough-and-ready vibe which has tended to define London fashion week, known for draughty car park venues and stompy models...

'The night was a love letter to theatre and performance, to supermodels and to glamour – and, perhaps, the start of a new age of elegance in London fashion.'

The Telegraph's Anita Singh meanwhile was less that flattering, writing: 'The sheer randomness of the evening becomes increasingly apparent...

'Rather than the 2012 Opening Ceremony, this was akin to the Platinum Jubilee pageant, a fever dream of a procession in which Prue Leith, Patsy Kensit and Basil Brush went down the Mall in an assortment of vehicles.'

Wild: It was a battle of the most outrageous looks at the bizarre evening - with Jodie Turner-Smith making herself a contender for the prize
