A brand-new Netflix rom-com has taken viewers by storm - with fans declaring there is 'not a single dull moment' as the South Korean series rockets up the charts just days after its release.

Although Bon Appétit, Your Majesty only landed on the streamer on Saturday, it has already secured a spot in the UK top 10, quickly becoming the most talked about drama.

The series offers a unique combination of romance, comedy, time travel and cooking.

At its heart is Yeon Ji-yeong, a perfectionist South Korean chef specialising in French cuisine, whose career takes an unexpected turn when she wins a cooking competition and is suddenly transported several centuries into the past.

Finding herself in the royal palace of the Joseon era, Ji-yeong encounters King Lee Heon, a ruler feared for his ruthless temper yet famed for his impeccable palate.

Described as both 'the best gourmet and the worst tyrant', the monarch proves to be her toughest customer yet.

Produced by Studio Dragon - the powerhouse behind global hits Crash Landing On You and It's Okay Not To Be Okay - the series is already drawing comparisons with its predecessors in terms of scale and ambition.

The drama stars Im Yoon-ah as the ambitious chef, alongside Lee Chae-min as King Lee Heon and Kang Han-na as the calculating concubine Kang Mok-ju.

Joseon prince Je Seon, who secretly covets the throne, is played by Choi Gwi-hwa - a familiar face for Squid Game fans, who will remember him as Player 203.

The official synopsis reads: 'Chef Yeon Ji-yeong, a perfectionist French-trained chef at the peak of her culinary career, is suddenly transported back in time to the royal palace.

'There, she's forced to cook for an infamously temperamental tyrant, King Yi Heon, a ruler with a killer palate and a deadly temper.

'Yeon Ji-yeong is a modern woman caught in a cutthroat world of palace politics, survival cooking, and unexpected romance. Her mission? Survive the royal kitchen, win over the impossible King, and maybe, just maybe, rewrite the future.'

Viewers are already hooked, and took to social media to gush about the show. One fan wrote online: 'Episode one was so good – it's been months since I enjoyed a romcom K-drama.

'There's no dull moment, it's all like a rollercoaster ride. Peak comedy, and there's a spark.'

Another viewer singled out the lead actor's performance: 'This might just be Lee Chae-min's best performance and project so far! His acting has improved so much, he's really shining.'

And one commenter said: 'This drama is for us romcom enthusiasts. I can't believe I have finally found a drama to get me out of my K-drama slump this year. It's so good, I can't wait for the next episodes.'

Others noted the attention to detail, with one writing: 'It's refreshing to see a character time-travel in their original state. She even had her phone and bag, though it didn't last long.'

The numbers suggest audiences agree. In South Korea, the premiere episode drew almost 5 per cent of the national TV audience.

Episode two climbed to an impressive 6.6 per cent the following week - a surge that will be reassuring to fans already clamouring for a second season.

Although Netflix has yet to confirm if Bon Appétit, Your Majesty will be renewed, the glowing reviews and viewership suggests the show could be a long-term success.
