Have you ever been depleted in strength or energy, mentally drained or feeling stagnant, then someone came along and inspired you to be, do or have? A well of seemingly dormant energy awakened from out of nowhere. Whence, before you had no motivation, may have been hungry but once enthused, your hunger abated and you were renewed with vigor. This is because “man doesn’t live off bread alone.” Understand that you are a spirit with a body, and not a body with a spirit. And you have to feed your spirit.

It’s said that most people come to prison and find religion. That may be partially true, but if so, has anyone ever pondered why? I believe it’s because they are no longer trapped in the rat race of paying bills or burdened with worldly responsibilities. You’re no longer distracted by and under the influence of the internet, media, and the billions of dollars spent on advertising, stimulating your five senses into buying products.

When you spend time in a cell, alone with no phone or TV, you’ll understand why prisons are known as sensory deprivation environments. Here, all the worldly programs you were under will fall away, and your senses will pick up a different vibe. You’ll start to think different, even ask questions.

It doesn’t matter what your religious background or preference is. There are many ways to get to the same destination. Christianity is rooted in the teachings of Jesus, which are about righteousness.

The word Islam means peace. Buddhism teaches selflessness. In short, all religions are a path to the enlightenment of one’s consciousness and unity with the Divine. And with all the negative energy you’ll be surrounded by, you’re going to need to get in alignment with a higher power to thrive in there.

I’m not religious at all, nor do I claim one, but I am a believer and I do own a Bible, Quran, Torah, and many other books on spiritual teachings. You may not know it, but a lot of the wisdom I’ve taught in this series comes from the timeless wisdom I’ve learned from ancient text.

There are stories in the books of all religions with someone who’s been through exactly what you’re going through. The wisdom in these stories is a compass for all humans to navigate with.

So put your church shoes on. Whether you choose to go to Taleen, Jumar, or church, I’m sure you’ll come out with a good word, possibly a new perspective, and enthusiasm about life.
