The Idea Of You premiered on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday with fans quick to point out the movie's fictional boyband bore a striking resemblance to X Factor heartthrobs One Direction. 

The movie, based on the 2017 book of the same name, stars Anne Hathaway, 41, in a steamy age-gap relationship, with her character Solène sparking up a romance with boyband member Hayes Campbell, sixteen years her junior, played by Nicholas Galitzine, 29.

Viewers shared that the movie's band, August Moon, sounds eerily similar to One Direction - and it's because their music is produced by the same people.

Their lead single I Got You is a pop song, produced by Savan Kotecha - the same brains behind One Direction's 2011 bop What Makes You Beautiful.

Viewers were quick to point out the similarities on X, formerly Twitter. 

They shared: 'I've watched 20 minutes of The Idea Of You and let me tell you, this movie would put 15 year-old One Direction obsessed me in a coma'.

'I'm crying they copied and pasted One Direction at its peak into The Idea Of You movie'.

'Was it August Moon at Coachella in The Idea Of You or was it One Direction at the OTRA [On the Road Again] tour no one knows'.

'Watching The Idea Of You and I'm feeling robbed by the fact that we never got One Direction at Coachella?????'

'I'm watching The Idea Of You and I'm only like 15 minutes in but it's KILLING me, it's so clearly One Direction and it's so cheesy I can't'. 

'I was not even a One Direction stan at any point of my life but the visceral cringe with The Idea Of Yougave me hives'.

'The One Direction consultant on The Idea Of You did their job kind of scarily well I am having uncanny experiences watching this. Shot for shot I can see it'.

So far, the romcom has been rated 92 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes with early reviewers praising the chemistry between Anne and Nicholas. 

The highly anticipated film has been fielding claims that the pop star character in her new romantic comedy The Idea of You was inspired by Harry Styles.

Based on Robinne Lee's 2017 book, Anne stars as 40-year-old divorced mom Solène, who takes her teen daughter (Ella Rubin) to Coachella at the suggestion of her ex-husband (Reid Scott).

There, she sparks a romance with Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of a famous boy band, who is only in his mid-twenties.

Styles, 30, on the other hand, began dating his Don't Worry Darling co-star and director Olivia Wilde, 40, after filming the 2022 movie.

Despite the resemblance, songwriter Savan Kotecha denied rumours that The Idea Of You is inspired by the Watermelon Sugar singer.

He told GQ: Now, when people talk about it, it seems obvious that it would be [inspired by Harry], but at the time, it was very specifically like, "We don't want it to be a Harry Styles fanfic movie".

 'The book was written in 2017, before Harry's famous relationship, which people thought that it might resemble'.

However, the American songwriter confessed in hindsight that the pop songs written for The Idea Of You are very similar to the bops he wrote for One Direction.
